Cross country moves

Hi everyone!  I know it’s been a while.  I’ve been a bit busy with the move, getting everything in order in our new place, and trying to prepare for my time in Chile.  So needless to say it has been a bit hectic, hence my absence from the ole blog.

So to catch you up, I’ll briefly run through the happenings of the past few weeks.  The Hoch and I decided to use Portable on Demand Storage (PODS) to move our belongings from Baltimore to San Antonio.  It was definitely the right call for us.  This way we could make a little road trip out of the drive instead of lugging all of our sh*t with us.  I had to pick up my Chile Visa in DC (had an appointment) and then we hit the road.  We spent a few nights in Wilmington, Raleigh, and Charlotte visiting friends and family as well as breaking up the rest of the drive with stops at state Capitols and an overnighter in Baton Rouge.  In the end, we drove about 24 hours total.

Once we arrived in San Antonio, we hit the ground running.  Our PODS container arrived the following day and we unpacked and started organizing right away.  We’ve been buying any new and needed items ever since (our new apt is much larger than our old one) and Hoch officially went back to work this past Monday!  In between the decorating and organizing, I’ve also been trying to take care of any final pre-travel preparations and figure out what I want to bring with me for my semester in Chile.  I also just found out which region I will be placed in (Region de Valparaiso!!!) so now I can officially start packing.  It’s getting real people.

I am excited, nervous, and a little sad that I am not spending more time in our new home before I go.  It has all been a crazy whirl wind and I really would’ve liked a couple more weeks in SA, but the timing of it all just wasn’t happening.  That being said, I am sure my time in Chile will fly by and I will be back before I know it.  So I just need to remember that when I am there and savor every moment.

Alright, well that’s it.  Hope you all have a great weekend and I’ll leave you with some photos from the past few weeks!

Kinda cool how this thing works. We actually did have one casualty (an old mirror), but I think it was due to the way we packed it.

I was able to catch up with an old high school friend, Lashay, while in town! It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed Tony’s Icecream in the park! 🙂

Hoch has made a hobby out of visiting state capitols.  He has already been to several and since we were going to be driving past some, we thought we would stop and check them out.  Well we did not consider that most are closed on Sundays (the day we planned for the longest leg of our trip) so we did not get to go inside any of them, unfortunately.

Random, but I am super excited about the amenities here, including this gym! I’ve already used it several times.

Well that’s it for now!

Until next post,

Kimberly

P.S. I’ve also somehow found time to sort through a ton of our go-pro videos.  We still have a lot to go, but be on the lookout for a Southeast Asia video (and maybe an India one) in the next couple of weeks!
